Mike:
Brooks, you're a Classical Liberal Arts major from Ormond Beach, Florida. What attracted you to Patrick Henry College?
Brooks:
Well, for me it was a combination of the vision of Patrick Henry and the strategy that it has to make that vision. PHC still believes that Christians can glorify God through the arts; they can take every thought captive. And I also believe in the hands-on apprenticeship approach.
Mike:
Throughout history the church has had a major influence on the world of art. But in this past century it seems that Christians have given up on influencing this area. How do you hope to impact American culture?
Brooks:
I guess the best way to impact culture is to encourage other Christians to impact it. We've forgotten that good and true art brings glory to God because God is good and true. I believe Christians have amazing artistic potential because God has revealed Himself to us, and so we understand His universe better, and ourselves too. The more good art Christians produce, the more our culture will be impacted. But we need to study the arts so we can better appreciate them. Personally, I am thinking about teaching in some area of the arts.
Mike:
Brooks, it is my prayer that your years at Patrick Henry College will prepare you for just such an impact. I'm Mike Farris.
